Foundation Fieldbus
What is Foundation Fieldbus (FF)?
Foundation Fieldbus is a bidirectional communications protocol used for communication between field instruments and control systems. It is the only digital fieldbus protocol that meets the requirements of ISA SP50.
The use of function blocks makes it possible to implement in a consistent fashion the basic features of measurement and control in instruments from different manufacturers.
What is the Fieldbus Foundation?
The Fieldbus Foundation is a consortium of worldwide leading suppliers of measurement and control systems. Its purpose is to develop an open fieldbus specification, as well as hardware and software technology, for companies that wish to implement Foundation Fieldbus in their automation products.
How is interoperability defined in connection with Fieldbus?
Interoperability refers to the ability to plug digital instruments into a fieldbus network and have them communicate with each other and with supervisory control systems. Users want to operate their entire plant via one single user interface and service all devices in the system with one maintenance application.
Are registered FF Fieldbus devices available?
