Radiation-based flow rate measurement

In radiation-based flow rate measurement, the solid material being transported on a conveyor belt is irradiated with gamma rays from a radioactive source. The gamma rays are attenuated when they pass through the layers of bulk solids on the belt. A detector picks up the weakened radiation and converts it into a measurement signal.
Radiation-based mass flow measurement allows continuous non-contact gauging of bulk solid quantities and is suitable for many different kinds of systems – from conveyor belt scales, chain trough conveyors and screw feeders to steel plate conveyors.
